It’s only a matter of time and seems inevitable that file sharing websites like Megaupload will be closed down. Apparently the USA feels that it can control the internet and seems to be getting it right without the help of SOPA and PIPA. Filesonic has recently followed suit and closed its file sharing completely which actually makes the facility totally useless. Now you can only download files that you have uploaded – no more sharing. The FBI says that this is to kill piracy especially More
So 2011 has some and gone and left us with tsunami’s, a royal wedding, death of Steve Jobs and many more memorable events. Is been a good year for some and of course not so good for others. As the world goes into 2012, hoping the prophecies of the apocalypse are not true, all I can say is that I hope we all learnt from the mistakes we made in the past and become better people for the future.
No new years resolutions for me this time except that life is what you make it. Happy New year world and for what it’s worth – be good.
A fire broke out today from the top floor of one of the Darul Ulooms buildings, better know as “CookSubs Room” by the students. The whole building was completely engulfed in flames leaving nothing but burnt walls. Alhamdulillah no-one was injured. Reports say that the fire started at 17:30 and continued until 18:30. There are no reports as yet as to how the fire actually started. One thing for sure is all that is left are the memories that students have of buying food from Cook Saheb “Cooksub” and “chilling” in the eating room.
There were many students and local residents who came to the firefighters aid and great admiration has to be given to all of them for their bravery in trying to save the building and its contents.
We will post updates and more photos as they become available.
Steve Jobs has been a great inspiration to all when it comes to design and creativity. I decided to put the dude on my laptop as a reminder of how he always strived for the best and never stopped looking for ways to improve design and not to mention the one thing he always said “Love what you are doing.”
Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a hellava sweet tooth. I just love sweets, cakes, chocolates, biscuits…you get the picture. Romantics is just one of those sweets you pop into your mouth and enjoy the sweet taste… until now. I was in Jo’burg (Johannesburg for our international visitors) a few weeks ago at a sweet warehouse and got a packet of Romantics – amongst other luxuries. This evening I wishing for something sweet so I opened the packet and popped one in. Damn!!! this aint no Romantic. I bit on it and it just crumbled like a compressed block of sugar. It was as sweet as hell. I even convinced my wife to taste one. I tried another… just as bad. No way was I going to give my kid those. Then it dawned on me of the rubbish they make for the kids today. No wonder they are sitting with allergies, coughing and hyper active.
Before I threw them in the bin I decided to dissolve a few in a small cup of water just for fun. I was horrified to see what was floating on top that couldn’t even dissolve.
Take a look at the pics to see what I mean. This is the crap that we are giving our kids and then when they are up all night coughing, we want to pump them with medicines. We need to rethink what we are feeding our kids and if this is just one type of sweet that is full of junk, imagine how many other sweets are damaging our kids.
A “Thank You Steve” song was created by an audio engineer using only Mac sounds and Steve Job’s voice. Steve Jobs has been one of the most inspirational people of our time when it comes to technology and creativity.
Apple released the iPhone 4S today. Although identical to the iPhone 4, the iPhone4S has a major upgrade on the inside. The upgrade includes a A5 dual core processor, 8 megapixel camera with stabilizer, 1080p HD video recording up to 30 frames per second and a beta version of SIRI. Siri is the intelligent assistant that does everything – all you have to do is ask. “Make me coffee?”, “Finish my brochure design?” “Take the dirt out?” mmmmmm not quite everything. It’s more like a Yellow Pages, TO DO list, kind of app with a voice. To be honest I really don’t think I could get used to it. Anyway, with the faster CPU and better graphics, I’m sure the iPhone 4S will be worth the upgrade… when it eventually makes its way to our shores.
Another announcement was that iCloud and iOS5 will be available on October 14 October 12. Now this is an upgrade I can’t wait for. I don’t think I will be rushing out and laying down the extra cash for an already perfect iPhone but iCloud and iOS5 will be worth it.
Update 1:
Apple has released the keynote of this event “Lets Talk iPhone“. To watch the video, you’ll need to use a Mac with Safari 4 or 5 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Lion, an iOS 3 or later device with Safari, or a PC QuickTime 7 on Windows. Enjoy!

I know this is old news but I stumbled across it again on the net. It’s amazing how our brains work. There’s just no way we could have evolved but let me not go into this or else I’m going to have to prove to some of you that The Creator exists (which will actually be an easy task). Anyway, below is a short paragraph of how our minds recognoise words even though they are spelt wrong. See if you can read the following paragraph.
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh?
Cool hey. Well as you just read, as long as the first and last letters of a word are in the correct place then our minds can easily recognise the word.
Another amazing thing is how difficult it is to read colours. Take a look at the image below. The test here is to read out loud the COLOUR and not the word. Read the colours and see if you can do it without getting stuck.
Amazing again hey, but apparently there is an explanation. According to Eric Chudler, Ph.D., a neuroscientist (Research Associate Professor) and Director of Education and Outreach at University of Washington Engineered Biomaterials in Seattle, Washington, the words themselves have a strong influence over your ability to say the color. The interference between the different information (what the words say and the color of the words) your brain receives causes a problem. There are two theories that may explain the Stroop effect:
1. Speed of Processing Theory: the interference occurs because words are read faster than colors are named.
2. Selective Attention Theory: the interference occurs because naming colors requires more attention than reading words.
Well, whatever it is, I’m just grateful that I can read in the first place. From me and paeunt btuter and jam – bye.
A sandwich is a food item, often consisting of two or more slices of bread with one or more fillings between them, or one slice of bread with a topping or toppings, commonly called an open sandwich. Sandwiches are a widely popular type of lunch food, typically taken to work or school, or picnics to be eaten as part of a packed lunch. They generally contain a combination of salad vegetables, meat, cheese, and a variety of sauces or savoury spreads. The bread can be used as it is, or it can be coated with any condiments to enhance flavor and texture. They are widely sold in restaurants and cafes.
