South Africans witnessed a spectacular total eclipse of the moon yesterday. The white full moon turned blood red as the longest lunar eclipse in a decade unfolded on Wednesday night, 15 June 2011. According to astronomers, the June 15 eclipse was among the best three in terms of length and totality that took place in the last 100 years in history. The last lunar eclipse closer to the center of Earth’s shadow was on July 16, 2000, when it lasted 107 minutes. This eclipse was a central eclipse, visible over Europe and south America after sunset, over Africa and most of Asia, and Australia before sunrise.
Below is a time lapsed video of the eclipse.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes behind Earth so that the earth blocks the sun’s rays from striking the moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with Earth in the middle. Is not Allah great?!
Ummul Hasanaat (my wifes Islamic school) has just updated the Young Minds Series of books. The new and improved books have beautiful new covers, enhanced activities and improved quality. The new books will be available on the Islamic Store very soon.
Wow, just a few hours after I posted an article on Apple pulling an app because of it being “anti-Islam”. I never thought that it would hit our shores so fast. Have we not learnt about RESPECT yet? Have we not learnt from the uproar the Danes caused? the Mail & Guardian has “bravely” gone and published a competition to draw The Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). Islam fobids the drawing of not only Muhammed (PHUH) but of any other Prophet (PBUT).
Why is it that the Mail & Guardian will tempt such a thing? i can only think of one answer – MORE EXPOSURE. We all know that it will create a huge uproar in South Africa therefore everyone will want to buy the paper just to see whats the big deal. Shame on you M&G.
I just feel that we have lost respect for our parents, friends, colleagues, bosses, people and OURSELVES. We hide behind “freedom of speech” and “right of expression” .
Anyway, a newspaper is there to report news – not to disrespect religions. It was NOT necessary to do such a thing. Whats your view point? Once agin be civil.
An iPhone app made by Emery Emery was pulled from the Apple iTunes store after just one day of being approved. The app showed pictures of The Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) and outlined some passages from the Quraan. This guy knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote the app and knew that it would raise a hype – easy way of getting recognition on the expense of Islam.
However, there has been concerns raised due to the fact that Apple has not pulled a similar app (BibleThumper) that bashes Christianity, from the app store. What ever the reasons, I don’t think that any app disrespecting any religion should be approved in the first place. Give us your thoughts. Be civil.
I thought i’d share this redesign of the Ummul Hasanaat website I did, with you. Hope you like the new design. Tried to make it abit more Islamic looking than the previous one. I think the logo also really sites well with this design. What do you think.?
“She was born on August 8th, 2002 at 1:06am. That is still one of the happiest moments of my life. I can still remember how it felt to hold my child for the first time and the disbelief that I had anything to do with her creation. She made me forget every worry I had felt in advance of her birth. I forgot about the claim that you would spend a million dollars getting a child to adulthood. I forgot about private schools and college funds. It was a moment of pure simplicity. That was Jani’s first gift to me.” taken from Jani’s Journey (official website)
Jani Schofield, a 7 year old child who suffers from what doctors call schizophrenia. Jani was born this way and from child birth she could ‘see” animals and communicate with them. As Jani grew older and at the age of 5 she became violent and thats when the Schofield family realised that something was really wrong. Its a constant battle for them. Jani is now in the mental hospital suffering from full blown schizophrenia, but was it really allutionations? More

A sandwich is a food item, often consisting of two or more slices of bread with one or more fillings between them, or one slice of bread with a topping or toppings, commonly called an open sandwich. Sandwiches are a widely popular type of lunch food, typically taken to work or school, or picnics to be eaten as part of a packed lunch. They generally contain a combination of salad vegetables, meat, cheese, and a variety of sauces or savoury spreads. The bread can be used as it is, or it can be coated with any condiments to enhance flavor and texture. They are widely sold in restaurants and cafes.
