Steve Jobs on MacBook Pro – Thanks for great design.

Steve Jobs has been a great inspiration to all when it comes to design and creativity. I decided to put the dude on my laptop as a reminder of how he always strived for the best and never stopped looking for ways to improve design and not to mention the one thing he always said “Love what you are doing.”

A “Thank You Steve” song was created by an audio engineer using only Mac sounds and Steve Job’s voice. Steve Jobs has been one of the most inspirational people of our time when it comes to technology and creativity.

Enjoy.

iPhone 4S

Apple released the iPhone 4S today. Although identical to the iPhone 4, the iPhone4S has a major upgrade on the inside. The upgrade includes a A5 dual core processor, 8 megapixel camera with stabilizer, 1080p HD video recording up to 30 frames per second and a beta version of SIRI. Siri is the intelligent assistant that does everything – all you have to do is ask. “Make me coffee?”, “Finish my brochure design?” “Take the dirt out?” mmmmmm not quite everything. It’s more like a Yellow Pages, TO DO list, kind of app with a voice. To be honest I really don’t think I could get used to it. Anyway, with the faster CPU and better graphics, I’m sure the iPhone 4S will be worth the upgrade… when it eventually makes its way to our shores.

Another announcement was that iCloud and iOS5 will be available on October 14 October 12. Now this is an upgrade I can’t wait for. I don’t think I will be rushing out and laying down the extra cash for an already perfect iPhone but iCloud and iOS5 will be worth it.

Update 1:
Apple has released the keynote of this event “Lets Talk iPhone“. To watch the video, you’ll need to use a Mac with Safari 4 or 5 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Lion, an iOS 3 or later device with Safari, or a PC QuickTime 7 on Windows. Enjoy!

Final Cut Pro X review

Final Cut Pro Heading

Today I got hold of Final Cut Pro X. I couldn’t wait to fire this baby up, caress the new interface and start my video magic. With my 17″ MacBook Pro, i5 2.53, 4GB Ram and a Seagate hybrid I was sure to rock the house. riiiiiiiight.

I was greeted with the new interface of what I’d seen before – cool, I thought. but then I decided to take it for a spin. Imported a 4 minute video (didnt want to overload her with a full HD 1080 60min clip, so a 4min 720 seemed appropriate). By the way, before starting FCP I restarted my Mac.

The clip imported and soon the background rendering started. Cool. I then added a transparent PNG, and then a PSD. Overlaid some effects and hell it started to slow down quickly. I thought maybe its the background rendering? Nope. Any open apps? Nope. Then what? Its turned out to be that the new Final Cut Pro X is just a load of …..

After 2 hours with only a 4min clip and 2 pics. I was lost, frustrated and couldn’t believe how slow it had gone. The interface seemed fine at first but it became clunky and unusable. The effects are horribly slow. This is iMovie Pro and NOT Final Cut Pro.

Im sorry but I feel that Apple has made a disaster and they can see it. Many pro users are complaining as well. I for one am going right back to FCP 7 and Motion. People DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on Final Cut Pro X !!!

To be more specific, here are my gripes:
1. Extremely slow
2. Clunky UI
3. Horrible timeline – stuff jumps all over the place
4. Too simplistically inclined
5. Cant open FCP 7 files
6. Slow effects
7. Background renderer re-renders too much – even when just a small piece of a clip changed.
8. Too much like iMovie and NOT an improvement on FCP
9. The Events manager is a disaster – too much iPhoto
10. No FC Server
11. Adding text and editing is horrible.
12. The effect manager panel cannot be moved (to a different screen)

Thats about it for now. I havent even done some Chroma keying, or colour corrections.

This is a huge disappointment.

Blogging has become the norm in our world today. More and more designers are using CMS like WordPress to design websites. I use WP as well and just love it. This post is actually a test from my iPhone 4 using WordPress for iPhone as well. Add you do is add your blog and you’re ready to go. You can upload photos and videos as well. Who would of though that you would be able to update your website directly from your mobile phone…. Apple did, hehe.

Apple i5 and i7 Macbook Pro's

Apple has finally released the new line of macBook Pro’s, 13-inch, 15-inch and 17-inch which includes i5 and i7 CPU’s. This upgrade really is what everyone has been waiting for – including me. The new specs below:

13-inch MacBoo Pro
This machine comes with either a 2.4GHz or 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. As with the other models, the 13″ starts off with 4GB of RAM (upgradable to 8GB). The factory hard drive in this machine is smaller than in its siblings at either 250GB (2.4GHz) or 320GB (2.66GHz). Both are serial ATA drives at 5400 rpm (there’s no 7200 rpm option for the 13″ model) with the following upgrade path:
500GB Serial ATA Drive
128GB solid-state drive
256GB solid-state drive
512GB solid-state drive

15-inch MacBook Pro
This model comes in two main configurations, distinguished by either an Intel Core i5 (2.4GHz or 2.53GHz) or Core i7 (2.66GHz) processor. Apple claims that they boost performance by 50% over the previous generation MacBook Pros (I can only imagine what my experience would be switching from a 2GHz Intel Core Duo).

All configurations start off with 4GB of RAM (upgradable to 8GB). As for the hard drive, the base 2.53GHz i5 and 2.66GHz i7 feature a 500GB Serial ATA Drive (5400 rpm) with several upgrade options, including:
500GB Serial ATA Drive (7200 rpm)
128GB Solid State Drive
256GB Solid State Drive
512GB Solid State Drive

17-inch MacBook Pro
There is one main configuration, featuring the 2.53GHz Intel Core i5; the 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 CPU is a build-to-order option. As with the other models, the 17″ starts off with 4GB of RAM (upgradable to 8GB), and comes standard with a 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive, with the following upgrade options:
500GB Serial ATA Drive (7200 rpm)
128GB Solid State Drive
256GB Solid State Drive
512GB Solid State Drive
That huge, high-resolution display is available with either a glossy or anti-glare finish (for an additional US$50). But this machine’s real appeal is in its performance.

Now this is what I call an upgrade. Will you be getting one?

Introducing a new digital magazine

If you like reading magazines then you are gonna love this. A new way magazines are being introduced to the world in the form of digital. Pretty soon we will be reading newspapers and magazines from devices like the Apple iPad. I totally love this concept and by watching this video you can see why. Just imagine the possibilities. I’ll cover more about this technology soon.

What do you think?
